Brookside Inn operates using the care manager model. Nurses are assigned to specific halls and specific residents. The nurse assigned to your loved one is their “care manager.” Your loved one’s care manager is responsible for writing and maintaining a specific plan of care. They work with other departments to develop a care plan that is personal and reflects the individual needs of those residing here. Our nurses are personally invested in their residents. It is not unusual to find our nurses or nurse aides sitting at the bedside with a resident listening to them discuss their day, their joys or their concerns.
We can care for a variety of illnesses and diagnoses including, but not limited to:
• Orthopedic Fractures
• All stages of dementia
• Wound Care
• Stroke Victims
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
• Congestive Heart Failure
• Hospice Care
Our highly trained social services staff contribute to meeting the psycho-social needs of your loved one’s care. They provide one to one support for residents who are adjusting to placement, who have psychological needs or who maybe just need a listening ear. The social workers are advocates for our residents and work to ensure a high quality of life for those who reside here. Brookside Inn also contracts with a psychologist to provide for the needs of our residents.
We are also in the unique position of employing a full-time registered dietitian and chef to meet the special dietary needs of our residents. Our dietitian works closely with our nursing staff to assess residents and designs a diet plan that will benefit the individual. Our nutritious meals benefit the health of residents. It is not unusual to see our chef making exciting desserts such as cherries jubilee.
Consistent with our overall philosophy, Brookside Inn offers both traditional and complimentary choices in healthcare. Every resident has an attending primary care physician, and 24 hour care provided by licensed nurses and nurse aides. In addition, when indicated, residents have access to complimentary therapies such as acupuncture, acupressure, massage, therapeutic touch, essential oils, yoga and Tai Chi. These therapies are intended to compliment the traditional medical model, providing pain management, relaxation and overall well-being. Complimentary modalities are used when desired by the resident or their families and care planned by the interdisciplinary team accordingly. The resident's personal physician oversees and approves all therapies. All practitioners are licensed, credentialed or certified according to their governing boards.
